Earn your law degree entirely online

The best law school may be the one that comes to you

Concord Law School is changing legal education. As the nation’s first wholly online law school, it has provided the opportunity for hundreds of graduates to earn a law degree for nearly ten years.

Our students have the opportunity to attend law school without moving, leaving a job, or commuting across town. Concord comes to you. Your computer becomes an open door to an educational experience with all the challenges of law school and the support you need to succeed.

The advantages of online learning

Concord’s “LMS” (Learning Management System) provides what you would expect to find in the halls of a “bricks and mortar” law school including the registrar, law library, career services, and student groups.

We use the same course materials (casebooks and supplementary materials) and follow the same syllabi as traditional law schools. Our legal education is an innovative blend of classroom work and directed study. Students come to class, are asked questions, and engage in dialog with their professor and classmates.

Courses include asynchronous directed readings, problem sets, essays, and exercises; plusonline lectures and periodic synchronous class sessions.

Student life “on-campus” and “off-campus”

The Concord platform includes a “Student Roster,” which encourages students to post photos, profiles, and contact information. It’s a great way to find study group partners, people with similar interests or backgrounds, and those in their geographic area.

Yet much of student life takes place “off-campus,” outside of Concord’s virtual halls. Students get together in-person at Concord events and elsewhere. They use Yahoo! Groups to form discussion and study groups. Instant messaging keeps many in constant communication.

Surprisingly affordable and convenient

In general, Concord students enjoy much lower tuition costs than students at campus-based law schools. Concord can assist you in securing the financial support you need to attend law school. Options include a variety of federal, state, and private lending programs, including military financial aid. Let a Financial Advisor help find the financial solution that is right for you.

Concord has a “rolling admissions” policy. First-year students may begin at one of a number of class start dates during the year. Admission requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and every applicant must complete an online admissions test. LSAT scores may also be submitted.

Quality academic standards and accreditation

Our professors bring their expertise and practice backgrounds to the classroom as they teach from across the country. Supplemental lecturers provide video lectures to the curriculum, while cooperating professors (from ABA law schools) author and teach courses at the school.

Concord is part Kaplan University, which is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC*) and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is registered with the State Bar of California; JD graduates, who meet the other regulatory requirements, are eligible to sit for the California Bar Exam.  It is an institutional member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the International Association of Law Schools (IALS), and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC§).

Two distinctive law degree programs

Juris Doctor (JD): Our four-year, part-time program meets legal education requirements of the State Bar of California. Graduates meeting regulatory requirements may sit for the California Bar Exam.

EJD (Executive Juris Doctor): Our three-year, part-time program is designed for students who plan to use a legal education to enhance their current career path, but who do not intend to practice law.

Electives include: Advocacy, Business Planning, Contract Drafting, Cyberlaw, Employment Discrimination, Equine Law, a series of health law courses including Bioethics and Health Care Policy, and a four course concentration in Patent Law.

Neither the State Bar of California nor the American Bar Association currently have standards that allow for the approval of a distance education law program.

Accreditation: Distance Education and Training Council (detc.org). The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
